Neuenheim

Right across from the Old Town on the north bank of the Neckar – university campus, the Philosophers' Walk, Tiergartenstraße and lots of students.

Neuenheim is Heidelberg's science district. The Neuenheimer Feld holds the university's largely science-focused campus, with Max Planck institutes, the university hospital and the German Cancer Research Center. The Philosophers' Walk (Philosophenweg) on the hillside offers one of the finest views of the Old Town and the castle.

Neuenheim lies on the north bank of the Neckar directly opposite the Old Town and joins two worlds: the old village centre with its snug lanes and half-timbered houses, and the modern Neuenheimer Feld, one of Germany's largest science campuses, with the university, the hospital and research institutes.

For visitors Neuenheim is a must above all for the Philosophenweg – the hillside path on the sunny slope offers the classic panorama of the castle and the Old Town. Down by the river, the Neuenheimer Neckarwiese is the city's most popular open-air meeting place in summer, for barbecues, picnics and lazy afternoons.
