Heidelberg's future 16th district – a new model quarter is planned on the former US residential area.

Patrick Henry Village (PHV) was, until 2013, one of the largest US military residential areas in Germany. Since the conversion, Heidelberg's future 16th district is taking shape here – a 'knowledge city of the future' concept with living labs, mobility themes and a mix of refurbishment and new construction. In the long term, a new quarter for living and working is planned for around 10,000 residents and 5,000 employees.

Patrick Henry Village (PHV) on the western edge of the city was, until 2013, one of the largest US military residential areas in Germany. Since the Americans left, the vast site has stood ready for one of the most ambitious urban developments in the region – Heidelberg's future 16th district.

Under the guiding idea of a "knowledge city of the future", a model quarter is to emerge here with living labs, sustainable mobility and a mix of converted existing buildings and new construction. For now PHV is largely a planning and transitional space, but in the long term it is intended as a living quarter for around 10,000 people.
