The Internationales Filmfestival Mannheim-Heidelberg (International Film Festival Mannheim-Heidelberg) is one of the oldest and most respected film festivals in Germany. Since 1952 it has screened work by young directors and independent films from around the world every November.
What it is
Founded in 1952, the International Film Festival Mannheim-Heidelberg is among the oldest film festivals in Germany and has kept a consistent focus for decades: new directors and independent cinema rather than studio premieres. For English speaking visitors that focus is a plus, because a large share of the program is international work shown in the original language.

Where to see films in Heidelberg
The Heidelberg screenings are concentrated at the Karlstorkino and the surrounding Karlstorbahnhof cultural center in the Südstadt, plus the Gloria Filmtheater. Mannheim, the festival’s other host city, is a short regional train ride away, so seeing films in both cities on the same trip is realistic.
