Enjoy Jazz: Heidelberg's International Jazz Festival
Enjoy Jazz is an international festival for jazz and everything adjacent to it, spread across the Rhine-Neckar region. For six weeks in October and November, concerts run in Heidelberg, Mannheim and Ludwigshafen, with the Heidelberg dates at the Stadthalle and the Karlstorbahnhof.
What it is
Enjoy Jazz is considered one of the most respected jazz festivals in the world. The name undersells it a little: the program reaches well beyond jazz in the narrow sense and takes in a wide range of contemporary music.
When it happens
Fall, spread over about six weeks in October and November. That format is unusual for a festival. Instead of packing everything into one long weekend, Enjoy Jazz spaces concerts out over a month and a half, so a visitor in late October or November has a good chance of catching something without planning a trip around it.
Where it happens
The festival covers three cities in the Rhine-Neckar metropolitan region: Heidelberg, Mannheim and Ludwigshafen. All three are connected by frequent regional trains, so a concert in a neighboring city is an easy evening out from Heidelberg.
In Heidelberg itself the artists play at the Stadthalle, the concert hall on the Neckar, and at the Karlstorbahnhof, the cultural center in the Südstadt.
