Nightlife in Heidelberg
As a university town with a large student population, Heidelberg has a lively night scene: compact, walkable and across every price range. The center of it is the legendary Untere Straße in the Old Town, joined by the scene around Bergheim and cultural venues such as the Karlstorbahnhof.
The Untere Straße
The "Untere," as locals call it, is Heidelberg's pub street, period. Bars, student haunts and small clubs line up along a few hundred yards of it. From the classic corner tavern to the cocktail bar, everyone finds something here, and because it is all so close together you switch venues on foot.
Clubs, live music and bars in Bergheim
The larger clubs and bars sit around Bismarckplatz and in Bergheim. The Karlstorbahnhof in the Südstadt district has become an important venue for concerts, film and culture. If you are looking for bars, shisha lounges or clubs, local addresses are listed in the Heidelberg business directory (in German).
Closing hours: since April 17, 2026, new closing hours apply in the Old Town, including the Untere Straße. On the nights before Thursday and Friday, last call is at midnight; on all other nights it is 1am. Individual venues may keep different hours, so it is worth checking their own channels.
