Geographical position of the city

Stadtansicht Heidelberg nach Westen Heidelberg is located at the eastern border of an area called "Oberrheingraben", exactly where the river "Neckar" is heading from "Odenwald" into the river "Rhein" (Rhine). North of the city you can see a mountain called "Heiligenberg", which is 445 meters high. South of the city you'll see the "Koenigstuhl", which is a mountain of 668 meters high. The old town of Heidelberg is located between the riverside of "Neckar" and "Koenigstuhl". Newer parts of the city are located in the direction of the river "Rhein". Heidelberg is in spot three of the biggest cities (after Mannheim and Ludwigshafen) in this area, named "Rhein-Neckar-Region" and having 145.000 citizens.

The climate of this area is mild in springtime because of its geographical position. Located in the "Oberrheinebene", between "Odenwald", "Hunsrueck", "Spessart" and "Taunus", the climate is dominated by a warm atlantic stream. Therefor you'll find almonds, fig trees and other exotic plants, as well as awesome brands of wine, growing in a near by area named "Bergstrasse".

Heidelberg is offering 800 years of history. It's romantic and traditional on one hand, on the other it's future and science orientated, as well as open minded because of the university and modern research institutions. Almost 30.000 students from many different countries are studying at 15 faculties on campus. At night you are invited to a big variety of cultural events in the local club scene and in fine pubs. Don't miss all the historical places and views that you can find everywhere. Their amazing romantic athmosphere is perfect for enjoying the city's nightlife.

Our proposal: Heidelberg will be most amazing for visitors who are taking enough time for their trip. Don't miss a shopping tour in the small alleys of the old town, discover one or two of the old pubs mostly visited by local students, take a walk in the morning on a street called "Philosophenweg" (philosopher's way) and last but not least enjoy a magnificent sunset surrounded by the castle.
