We also recommend to visit the house where Friedrich Ebert was born. Here you can see more about the living and working conditions of the people of the 19th century in Heidelberg.
Be impressed by a unique collection telling the history of pharmacy. The German pharmacy museum is showing a big variety of medicine and cures from the past, You can see receptacles, glasses, books, medieval manuscripts, laboratories and fully equiped pharmacy shop fittings, a few of them are from the 17th century. A ticket for the courtyard of the Heidelberg castle is giving you also free entrance to the German pharmacy museum.
This museum is called the "treasure box of Heidelberg". Its collections of art and cultural history from the past centuries are due to the French emigrant Charles de Graimberg who also supported the conservation of the ruins of the castle. Also be impressed by the presented archeological finds from the time of the Romans and Celts.
If you take a walk on main street from city hall in eastern direction, you will arrive at the Karlstor at the end of the street. It was build in the time during 1775 to 1781 and looks like a Roman triumphal arch. This monument is richly decorated and showing the portraits of the elector Karl Theodor and his wife, as well as four Palatine lions. Tip: You will pass a lot of beautiful baroque housefronts on your way to Karlsplatz.
The Kornmarkt is a small square located at the south east front of the city hall. In the middle of the square is a sculpture of Maria holding baby Jesus. It was build in 1685, when the prince elector Philipp Wilhelm was trying to turn his subjects of the Palatinate (Kurpfalz) ,which was mostly protestant at this time, back to Catholic beliefs. From this square you'll have an interesting view on the castle. You can reach it by a footpath or with the cable railway, both are starting near by the Kornmarkt.
Going on a boat trip is a very special kind of event. You'll pass castles, citadels and historical villages on your way through the beautiful Neckar valley. Tours with boats of the RNF are available from spring to autumn.
The quay is located in Old Town, right opposite the municipal hall.
